Administrative Assistant
 
Position Title: Office Assistant (Volunteer Position)
Immediate Supervisor: Executive Director
Date Established: April 2011                      
 
Primary Function:
 
This position will support the Executive Director in general organization, information/donor management, and administrative financial reconciliation.   6-7 hours per week on a regularly scheduled basis is desirable.  Meet with Executive Director once a week in person, and then work from home for all other roles and responsiblities.     
 
Essential Functions:
  • Follow-up with post event appreciation. 
  • Responsible for quarterly newsletter mailing. 
  • Regularly research relevant topics to update our social media sites including Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, our website.
  • Update donor database.
  • Assist with financial administration including: receipt tracking,  and Quickbooks data entry
  • Manage volunteers and seek avenues for finding specialized interns. 
 
Internal and External Relationships: 
  • Work closely and accept direction from the Executive Director regarding roles and responsibilities.
  • Correspond with National Staff in Liberia when relevant.
  • Build relationships with volunteers, and work closely with event committee members. 
 Qualifications: 
  • High level of organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of Quickbooks, MS Word and Excel a plus.
  • High level of commitment to the cause.
  • Self-starter, able to take initiative and offer suggestions for improvement.
  • Able to contribute on a regularly scheduled basis each week.
 
  
Marketing Internship

Immediate Supervisor:
 L.A.C.E.S. Founder/Executive Director
Work Locations: Baltimore, MD
Duration of Internship: 4-5 months
Effective Date: January - May
 
L.A.C.E.S. is a non-profit organization whose mission is to establish mentorship based sports leagues as an avenue for teaching children morals and values based on the teachings of Jesus Christ. Volunteers and interns that serve with L.A.C.E.S. are committed to the organization’s mission, vision, and values.

Utilizing your skills in the areas of marketing, and creative design you will be a decision maker within the organization and contributing to a very real need. There’s no copy-making or coffee-getting with this internship; and at the end of your internship, you will know that you have done something that mattered.
 
Position at a Glance:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Marketing Intern will be responsible for the implementation of L.A.C.E.S communication strategy and will directly manage marketing activities that promote, enhance, and protect L.A.C.E.S. brand reputation. 

Responsibilities:
  • Implement our strategic communications plan to advance L.A.C.E.S. brand identity; broaden awareness of its programs and priorities; and increase the visibility of its programs across key audiences.
  • Responsible for development, design, and implementation of a new fundraising program being launched in April of 2012.
  • Oversee 3 major fundraising events.    
  • Oversee development and design of L.A.C.E.S. newsletters and other print publications; web, e-news, social media, and other online communications.
  • Manage press relationships to ensure coverage surrounding L.A.C.E.S. programs, special events, public announcements, and other projects.
  • Search out and submit articles to magazines and other publications
Qualifications:
  • 4th year Marketing student or a last semester 3rd year student. 
  • Previous experience in graphic design, and copy editing. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and other relevant software.
 

 

Capacity Building Internship

Immediate Supervisor: L.A.C.E.S. Executive Director
Work Location: Baltimore, MD and 2-3 weeks in Liberia, West Africa
Duration of Internship: Minimum Four months
 
Effective Date:  Immediately

Position at a glance:
The Capacity Building Intern will work in partnership with the L.A.C.E.S. Liberia Program Director to build the capacity of the Liberian local staff in the areas of proposal writing & fundraising, program monitoring and evaluation, as well as program & financial management.  The goal of this volunteer internship is to support L.A.C.E.S. Liberia in becoming a locally-operating, self-sufficient, local NGO.  

Specific Responsibilities:
 
1.       Grant Writing & Fundraising

  • Identify funding opportunities within local funding agencies
  • Liaising and relationship building with local funding agencies and NGOs
  • Attending NGO coordination meetings
  • Training of Program Director in grant acquisition fundamentals
  • Submission of two (2) significant grant proposals
  • Other duties as given by L.A.C.E.S. Executive Director
 
2.       Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E)
  •  Fully understanding and comprehending program and organizational structure and goals
  • Designing comprehensive program M&E tool
  • Training L.A.C.E.S. Liberia staff on function and use of M&E tool
  • Other duties as given by L.A.C.E.S. Executive Director
 
3.       Program & Financial Management
  • Capacity building of L.A.C.E.S. Liberia Program Director in use of various program management tools (Gantt charts, logical frameworks, reporting schedules, delegating duties, Program Cycle Management (PCM) and others)
  • Capacity building of L.A.C.E.S. Liberia Program Director in programmatic cost savings options and strategic decision making
  • Communicating organizational goals of self-sufficiency
  • Other duties as given by L.A.C.E.S. Founder/CEO

    4.       Qualifications
  • Masters Degree in Business, International Business, International Development or related field
  • Minimum one (1) year of international experience preferred (experience in Africa also preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability in grant writing, and networking
  • Knowledge and experience in developing program monitoring and reporting systems
